We attended a spectacular percussion concert and ceremony in the Centro Educativo y Cultural del Estado de Querétaro, Gomez Morin. After an extensive pre-Columbian-inspired ceremonial invocation, with much copal incense and enthusiastic calling of the four directions, the concert began. Oscar Salazar Zuñiga, principal percussionist with the Orquesta Filarmónica del Estado de Querétaro, performed on a multiplicity of beautiful indigenous instruments. The title of the program is "The Importance of the Huehuetl in Ceremonies in Mexico". The program is sponsored by a grant from the Instituto Queretano de la Cultura y las Artes.

These photos show some of the instruments, some aspects of the ceremonial invocation, and a bit of the performance. See videos below the photos.
