John and Sandy Detwyler, friends from Schenectady, NY, graciously invited us to stay with them in their delightful house (Casita Guanacaste) in Pelican Eyes Piedras y Olas in San Juan del Sur. Friday morning we caught an early bus and arrived at San Juan del Sur by 11am. After a warm welcome, John took us on a tour of Pelican Eyes to see the beautiful gardens and houses, pools, fountains, waterfalls, restaurants and palapas, and spectacular views. We enjoyed the many animals (cats, dogs, monkeys, birds, even a javelina) that Pelican Eyes hosts and cares for as part of their Wildlife Center. We took a refreshing swim in one of the pools, and had a delicious dinner at La Cascada, accompanied by a fabulous San Juan del Sur sunset. Next morning we took an early beach walk and were treated to a rare rainbow. Later we walked around town and visited some of the shops and galleries. After another excellent lunch at Casita Guanacaste, we said goodbye to John and Sandy and headed back to Granada.
