Norte: Jinotega, Esteli, Miraflor
We visited parts of the mountainous north country of Nicaragua for a few days with our friend Imelda Williams. We started from Granada, with an early bus to Managua followed by a long bus trip to Jinotega. We enjoyed the rest of the day in Jinotega, a lovely small mountain town. We walked a dirt road up the hill on the east side of the valley, for views of the town and the other hill across the valley. We were not expecting an "Atlantic City Casino" in this quiet remote town! Next morning we took another long and dusty bus ride into Esteli, the largest town in the department. There we enjoyed the many murals painted as part of the Sandinista revolution.
